Here you’ll find a place to gather, write, read, and share your work with other astrologers, diviners, magicians, spiritual practitioners, and esoteric thinkers
The Fire At Night offers camaraderie around reading, writing, publishing, and audience-building efforts through recurring online meetups, including a generative book club, weekly write-ins, monthly open mics, and peer-to-peer feedback sessions facilitated by a former university professor and other professional practitioners. Each of these gatherings offers an opportunity to share, receive feedback on, and improve our work, as well as to deepen our practices of reading, writing, and learning alongside each other.

BOOK CLUB
For the book club, we’ll read a book a month together, connecting through Zoom meetings, a community Discord, Substack posts, and chat threads to discuss the story at hand as it intersects with astrology, magic, the occult, and whatever else tickles our fancy! We’ll read across a variety of genres and interests, examining the Pluto-in-Scorpio vibes that form the backbone of Maggie Thrash’s fictive Satanic Panic thriller Rainbow Black, for example, or exploring just exactly how Saturn-in-Pisces might function as a speaker in Christina Sharpe’s incomparable Ordinary Notes.
WRITE-INS
The weekly write-ins will take placemeet on Zoom every second Sunday at 10am PT / 1p ET time. This is an hour-long session for participants to write and gather together to create accountability, camaraderie, and support around whatever writing projects they’re working on. We’ll open each write-in with a brief ritual and divinatory prompts that link up with the astrology of the moment to help get the creative juices flowing, so to speak.
OPEN MIC
Building off the work done in our weekly write-ins and feedback sessions, the monthly open mic night will celebrate the creative accomplishments of our members with public-facing readings and performances. Whether you’ve been working on a hybrid poetry-astro-mythology mixed-media piece, or spiffing up the technical details of your professional work with a particular time-lord method, or waxing philosophical about the relationship between the Third House and queering contemporary mother culture, our open mics are for anyone hoping to share their heart’s work with a wider audience.
PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT
These monthly feedback sessions are explicitly designed to offer revision support and an early audience for your work! With this level of support, you can give up the feeling of “screaming into the void” for good; with every writing project you embark on–whether it’s writing simple social media copy or captions, structuring an hour-long conference presentation, or finally diving into the book you’ve been hoping to write–you’ll have readers to cheer you on and provide invaluable early audience feedback at each stage of the process.
MEMBERSHIP
Memberships costs $27 USD a month and gives you access to the book club, write-in, and open mic as well as access to our substack posts with that share insights from writers, publishers, and practitioners.
